GM Duramax Problems - LB7: 2001-2004

Around 100k miles stock injectors fail

Lack of factory lift pump

Fuel filter housing O-rings leak

Water pump leaks

Over heating

Head gasket failure

GM Duramax Problems - LLY: 2004.5-2006

Stock turbo intake too restrictive, aftermarket turbo inlet or stock LBZ turbo inlet, cold air intake also fixes this

Head gasket failure

Injector harness failure

EGR valve issues

Glow plug failure

Fuel pressure relief valve

Lack of factory lift pump

GM Duramax Problems - LBZ: 2006-2007

(known as best Duramax, lack of emission control parts, GM worked out previous engine problems, first Duramax to come with an Allison transmission)

Lack of factory fuel pump

At 600+ HP pistons may crack

LB7 broken piston

GM Duramax Problems - LLM: 2007.5-2010

Emissions problems

Cracked pistons, this is because of the new 6 fuel spray holes aimed in opposing directions which causes hot spots in the pistons.

GM Duramax Problems - LML: 2011-2016

Injection pump failure, causes metal shavings to enter the fuel system, to fix the whole system needs to be replaced, to prevent install a different lift pump, most people use the BOSCH CP3 due to its lower pressure but can still achieve high horsepower

GM Duramax Problems - L5P: 2017-2021

Clogged MAP sensor, causes check engine light, to fix clean the sensor and add a MAP sensor spacer

Steering and suspension problems

Tie rod ends break easily, replace with upgraded ones

Heavy duty pitman and idler arms, bigger sway bars with better end links, tightens the steering and fixes any shakes

Steering stabilizers to fix wandering

Input shafts are very common for clunky steering as well

Hydraulic hammer in PS cooler can also cause steering issues
